The Stop Point

I have been thinking quite a bit later about when do we stop growing internally. When do we emotionally stop developing? Is there a stopping point that all of us reach and then that is it? or does some act or thought stop us?
I know from the many years of self development I have done on myself that we have the capacity to learn and to stop repeating patterns of negative self behaviour and to 'grow up' BUT it has come to my attention that there are parts of my inner psychology that seem to remain 'fixed' in time. As I age I find it interesting and frustrating that aspects of myself never seem to grow. Take my body and my weight, in my mind I am 'fixated' on a weight that I was half a life time ago and in my current time frame my body is not interested in being that weight. Now does that change my internal stop point? No it just makes me very frustrated. I can visualise and set for myself another weight point but their is this little nagging voice that always chastises me that I have set the scales to low for myself. Common sense and a realistic look at myself and my achievable results does not seem to change or still ( long term) that voice. Also there is an aspect of myself that seems to think my body should be as it was in my 20's - physically- I am some times shocked when I see myself in the mirror because I see the real me looking back at me, I seem to think at that point that I am again still in my 20's. Logic does not seem to apply to this internal set point of mine.
Maybe we need this set point, maybe this is where we keep going to get the energy to 'keep going' in our current lives. Maybe this is where the magic is. Where we can tell ourselves that it is never to late or that we are never to old to do or achieve or believe. Maybe there is a separate part of our selves that we carry with us to keep the spark of life going when we are feeling down or in too much pain or feeling displaced or lost. Maybe we need to access that more youthful aspect of ourselves to keep from crossing over to being a syndical S.O.B.  or a bitter old hag; maybe the reminder of that softer youth and the dreamer inside is a wake up call or a reminder that most things you want are possible to achieve, if that is what you really want.
The human mind is a fascinating place and I believe that it has far more 'levels' to it than we have discovered so far and I look forward to exploring mine and hoping to came to some understanding as to why I have this inner point of 'stopping' around who I think I am verses who I currently am.
I believe we are all here to learn and to transcend our difficulties to become the 'whole person' we can be, so onwards and upwards I continue to go.

" Life is an adventure full of everything our minds belief are possible"

Have a great day

No and Can't

How often do you say NO to yourself or tell yourself that you CAN'T do something?
Is it a quick response? or is it something you put thought into?
For most of us a NO and I CAN'T is a rapid word voiced, we have programmed ourselves through the years to automatically place limits around ourselves.
We don't take the time to ask ourselves a few questions:

1. Why am I saying NO or I CAN'T

2. Do I really not want to do this
3. Is this a decision coming from fear
4. Is this an old aspect of myself speaking or is this the current me.
I am not saying that we should not voice a NO or CAN'T
what I am saying is that we often need to define for ourselves if it is a common response whether or not it is what we want or need in our current physical and mental space.
We can emotionally be trapped in a time when we used these words as a protection or because we truly believed we could not do or be certain  thing, and over time it has become an ingrained habit for us, and that is where the danger lies. By never taking the time to define in your NOW why you are saying no or can't, then you cannot be sure as to whether this is what you really want or if it is just your innate inner child raising it's head and leading you around in automatic emotional mode.
If you see yourself as being that person who is living on automatic, give yourself a gift. A gift of being true to who you are NOW, not the child or wounded adult. Make a decision by taking a few minutes to ask the above questions and then know that if you then say NO or Can't then it is coming from your current truth. Be empowered. Be strong in your resolve. Turn of the automatic control.

K.I.S.S.

I have found that the more I explore the concepts of Universal Energy the more I am influenced physically by them. The last few weeks I have felt really heavy and drained and incapable of being creative. Luckily for me one of my closest friends is a Astrology wizard and can tell me what is in my planetary chart. Normally I can then gather a clearer picture of why things are happening. Then I can gather my energy reserves and put a action plan in place.
For me knowledge is power and enables me to work through outside influences to re-create the balance I need to get through what is happening or to put up temporarily band aids that stay in place until the energy has shifted.
I love the acronym K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple Stupid.
During these intense energy times this is the best advise I can give myself.
Don't over extend physically or mentally
Don't go into self destruction mode
Don't think this is lasting
And finally be gentle and loving to myself.
Having friends you can talk to in moments of honesty and truth without being enabled to stay in your 'shit' is so important for moving forward. Obstacles are often placed in our ways to teach us and to determine if we are on the right track in life. I like to think that obstacles are 'friendly' things ( I often have to work through these obstacles before I emotionally get to that space.)
But I have long ago determined that having a positive emotional attitude is one of my greatest abilities and that being stuck feeling sorry for ones self is not going to be a great help long term. When I find myself in those darker times K.I.S.S. helps me move around/up/through to find that light that will always be present and available if you look for it.
If you are in moments of turmoil, don't get trapped in the isolation or sadness of those moments and don't buy into the drama, create a path to balance once again by having your own K.I.S.S. plan in place.
Life is here to be lived, and to be lived with all of its aspects being experienced. How can we understand (emotionally) an easy life if no hardships have touched us? I believe there are many shades of colours in life that touch us and help us form and grow and I embrace them freely as they are one of the foundations that help me mature and hopefully grow into the 'wise woman' I wish to be.

Bubble Wrapping

I was listening to the news today and there was a discussion of the effects of bullying. There had been a study done somewhere and the results where that the scars of being bullied can stay with you well into adulthood or even forever. My first thought was a sarcastic 'really' that needed a study to ascertain.
Now I am not writing to talk about the need we seem to have to do endless studies that inform us of things most of us already no. What got my spider sensors tingling was more of a gut feeling of 'shit' not another reason to baby this generation. Now  please understand I despise bullying in any form, and I have always stepped up whenever I have either experienced it or seen it being implemented BUT I have a issue with not giving tools to teach internal and emotional fortitude.
Do we not need to teach strength of character and stop our incessant need to keep our kids wrapped in bubble wrap. Is it working? Suicides within the teenage population is on the rise and with the internet and other technologies the use of bullying is at a all time high. Schools have a no tolerance rule and acceptance of diversity is practiced. Where are we going wrong?
My thought is a simple one, Stop the babying! Stop expecting all teens to be the same and stop imposing unrealistic guide lines around behaviours and for heaven sake toughen up. We the adults need to toughen up and we need to teach resilience to our youth, not so they become robotic but so they can have tools to stand up and say enough and feel great about it. So that they understand that they are the stronger ones and that the bullies are the weak and pathetic ones. We cannot out race bullying, it follows us; those who bully us as kids bully as adults and teach their own kids to be either bullies or victims and the cycle goes on and on.
We are creating a bubble wrapped generation weather out of guilt because their are so many families where both work or because single parenting is on the rise or for a myriad of other reasons, but we need to stop. It is not working. Do I have a magic wand -yes- but not the spell to create those changes.
We seem to be so involved with keeping every one happy but it seems to me only a select few are and the rest of us have to be accepting or else. The minority wins. Kids and adults need to develop a tougher outer skin and stop being such a bunch of whiners. Harsh yes but that is my thoughts on the subject, many will not agree but that is still the great thing about being in a country where freedom of voice and thoughts have yet to be 'desensitised'  and 'neutralised' for the betterment of the all!

Adaptation and transformation

When life kicks you, do you lie down and close off or do you get back up stronger and wiser?
I was always of the opinion that the roadblocks and hardships placed in my path where put there for me to learn from and once I had I was a stronger and wiser woman.
We as human beings are blessed with many things, two being the ability to adapt and also to transform.
Adaptation is a powerful tool. Having the mindset to go with the flow and to learn from the knocks or blocks being placed in your way and rising up instead of being down trodden, has helped transform our planet through out our history.
Learning from our lessons and transforming ourselves to be better, stronger, wiser is an amazing gift we all possess but not everyone chooses to use.
Have you fortified your personal arsenal with these and other tools?
Are you a survivor or a victim?
We are incredibly lucky because regardless of our pasts at any time we can choose to take a stand and create a personal change within ourselves. We can go from being passive or being victimised to taking back our own power and taking strength from that to transform ourselves into being that person who we have admired who stands up and stands firm for what they believe in and shouts out loudly "enough"!
I believe that it is important to die with personal dignity intact than to live in continual shame. In another word I would rather stand for what I believe in than be bullied into living in silence as that would eat me up from inside and I would rather not be turned into a shadow of who I am. My internal warrior would not allow me to be a passive participant in my own life or in my part of this world.
Ask yourself " Am I adaptable to change and circumstance?" and also " Do I transform myself with each lesson learnt?"
Are you afraid to adapt and change or is it a natural thing for you to do?
I am a great believer in meditation and inner contemplation as I think being a fluid being allowing constant growth is part of my personal journey and meditation is a great tool to help give me both focus and also direction and understanding.
Take time to add this tool into your life as it will aid you in stilling the internal naysayers we all possess and help you in times when adaptation is needed in your life.

Affirm to yourself " I am fluid and open to adapting to my world and transforming myself as needed, with easy and grace"

See yourself as a butterfly. Going within to your cocoon (internal reflection) coming out as a moth ( learning new tools) and turning into a vibrant butterfly(mastering those tools) and flying free.

Have a vibrant and joyous day.

Happiness

How are YOU? Do you take the time too get in touch with YOURSELF?
Or are you so busy that the last person on your list is YOU.
I would encourage you to take a deep breath this year and take a personal assessment of yourself and your life.
Are you happy? Or is that a strange question for you to think about? Have you ever thought about it at all? Did you automatically say yes or no, without having to think about it. Is your answer true or just an instinctual response.
Take a deep breath, grab a pen and paper and ask yourself now
What is happiness, take the time to write down your response/s.
Are you living what you wrote down?
Are you feeling what you wrote down?
The first time I really thought about the concept of happiness as an adult I really had to take time to think about what it meant to me in my 'now'. I had thoughts around what it meant to me to be happy and I also had feelings around what that felt like, but in reality I was living a busy life with a busy family to look after and I had forgotten along the way to actually think about how I was feeling about this life I had created. In this I would think I am very much like many other people, we just get on with it and accept to a degree that this is what life is meant to be as an adult with responsibilities.
It actually came as a shock to me, when I took the time to think about it(happiness) that I was not living in a happy place. Now do not get me wrong I had a great life but I had long ago put myself in last place in my family chain.
Even more surprising was that I really had no idea what it meant for me to experience an intimate connection to the feelings of what 'happy' was. I would say during this period, that 'this' made me happy or 'that' made me happy. But this and that was an external experience. It was also a revelation to me that after much though and writing I had to conclude that my happiness was something I and I alone had control over, no one else could MAKE me happy.
On my journey to happiness self discovery I realised that truly it is a thought process. If I wish to be happy then I need to think and feel happy! It has nothing to do with where I live or what I have or don't have, it truly is about how I think and feel about myself at that period in time.
It is not surprising I lost my way on the happiness trail because if I ever think back on it, as a child you just where - happy- and as a teenager and young adult I learnt to attach my happiness to things or to other people or their needs.
Have you lost you way as well? Are you only happy if your relationship is great or work is going well?
Take the time NOW to reattach to your own inner self, open up your heart and mind to the vast possibilities of living in happiness regardless of what your external reality is. Take back the control of your happiness.
Be a happiness beacon! Smile with your heart/mind and soul. Increase your happiness vibration consciously and watch the magical change within you as the little things that use to erode at you disappear-poof!

"I am a loving vibrant being of happiness, open to receiving and giving
                                                    love"

Re-Commit

So we have reached the half way mark of January, How are you doing? Are you still excited about the promises you made to yourself at the beginning of the New Year or have you slowly started to go back into your old habits?
If it is the first - good for you
If it is the second - get a grip!
If the commitment you made to yourself is important and do-able, please take this time to refocus and do not quit.
It is vital that you start keeping the promises you make to yourself. It is so easy to get lost in our own journeys, so easy to be too busy or too tired or the myriad of excuses we give ourselves for why we stop doing what we know we either should or must do to achieve the dream we have for ourselves. I often have that evil inner voice of mine, that sits in judgement and knows all of the emotional boxes to open, show itself, and always when I have promised to create changes for MY betterment.  I also over the years have gathered the tools to stop it from being around for long, but I am aware of the power it - the subconscious sabotage that plays havoc in all of our brains.
Keep your promises you make to yourself. Keep them small and do-able and bask in the glory of a win over your saboteur, those small wins will soon mount up to the larger victories you want. It also gives you an internal and mental strength that tells you - I am a winner.
So if you have been lagging on those commitments you made a few weeks ago, NOW is the time to recommit and maybe to redefine or simplify that list you made.
"I am the success I see in others"
Have a great year with that affirmation in your mind.

Mind-Full-Ness

We literally have the opportunity every day to rewrite our own stories. Our now is lead by our beliefs and our thought processes, so at any time we can create change. It is as simple and as complex as that! We have all said to ourselves at one time or another 'I have changed my mind'; now the power behind that statement is profound. We, as human beings have the unique ability to stop and think and reassess ourselves all the time. It is an amazing power and resource that we tend to be both unaware of or disregard most of the time.
The saying 'Put your mind to it' is again used often; but what does it really mean to you and I? It seems to me that in this day and age we are encouraged to look beyond our self as a resource. We rarely look within to the heart and mind of the problem, we seek solutions with friends, family, the internet or a professional. Unfortunately we also seek solutions in drugs, alcohol, sex or food to name just a few areas. We have not been taught to have a trust and faith in the strength of our own minds and convictions.
Just think, what keeps you on track to start something new or go to the gym or on the other hand what keeps you trapped in old negative habits? The answer to both is your mind. It is the most powerful resource we have, and the most under utilised asset, as most of us live in a automatic haze and rarely stop and 'think' about our why's and how's.
Today you have the power to access your most vital resource YOUR MIND and you can learn to master it. Now it is both as I have stated before simple and complex. It is simple because you can learn what works for you to create these changes, you can access your dreams and hopes and you can make a plan on how to achieve them and you can 'SET' your mind to getting there. It is also complex because in our mind we have created a maze of ideas and thoughts that often are wrapped in misconception and full of 'feelings' and these often stop us from moving forward.
The challenge is to find and work with the right tools to move through these mind-fields and to re-set your mind to work for you and with you.
When this is achieved, you will be able to then climb that internal mountain and stand tall yelling ' I did it!'
In my journey I have discovered a few tools that work well for me:

Meditation, because it allows the mind to be still and fears to be reached

Journaling, because it is a great way of seeing your fears as well as your hopes and giving space for both; a release and a direction.

Affirmations, because having a mantra of sorts focuses my mind and gives me a direction as well

Visualisation, because I find it is important to have a picture in my mind to show myself where I want to head...I need to see and feel it for it to be real.

These are just a few tools, there are so many more but I have found that everyone has their own source that works for them, they just have to take the steps to find out what they are.
Remember you can change your life, direction, negative thoughts ect every day. Your MIND is your most powerful resource, explore it!

Today I awake to a new adventure knowing that my life is full of everything I need to be happy, healthy and successful!

Connection

In these times of electronic dependence and 24/7 connection, I believe it is important for all of us to take time out each and every day to be 'switched off'. We need to take time to reconnect. We are spending so much time using our minds that we have lost track of ourselves as a whole entity. There seems to be a generation out there who are tech smart and spend large amounts of their time either online at their jobs and online playing games at home that their whole identity is wrapped up in an electronic haze. Now I believe it is important to be on board with technology as it provides us with amazing resources BUT we have to remember it is only a part of the whole of who we are as a person.
I feel there is a need to get back in touch with our bodies and our spirit and to be part of the earth we live on. A lot of people are walking around with a secondary focus on other area's of there personal being. They feed their bodies often without thought or true focus and some times exercise their bodies because they know it is good for them and that they should, so they do. This compartmentalisation is worrying to me. We are a whole being and need to be aware of ourselves as a whole entity. Even though we have separate needs it is contained within the vessel that is us. When was the last time you asked your bodies what it needed? Do you have that relationship with yourself or do you just do what you within your mind space thinks should be done, or are you totally unaware and run in automatic mode.
Equally do you have a spiritual side that you nourish? whether that is mainstream or alternative or just uniquely yours? Do you understand your placement on this great planet we live on? Do you understand that you are a energy being and so is every other thing on earth? And that the Earth itself is energy.
Take time to switch off and reconnect to yourself as a whole being and to the earth beneath your feet. It need not be complex. Every day take 30 minutes and learn to breathe properly.
Method: take a deep breath in and physically push the breath into your
stomach. I use a counting method of 8. Count in your head 8 in and 8 exhales out and do this 3 times. This is a quick effective grounding and centering technique that will relax you and get you connect to your whole self.
Spend the rest of the time being mindful, check in on your body-how are you doing? check in with your spiritual side-do you have what you need? be aware of your environment and your role in it.
We are all a atom of energy sharing the same space and time, are you being a positive one?
Be thankful and aware of you Now.
It does not take much or cost anything to be a positive atom of light full of gratitude and totally connected to yourself and the living breathing world around us. You may even enjoy the process of having a deeper relationship with yourself and your place in your world.

Choose Wisely

I find it interesting how we as a society cycle our fashion choices, our beliefs, foods and so on, the list is never ending. I knew from studying History at school that events of the past are often repeated so in time we could almost predict a pattern. So I find that it is interesting that I am seeing in the last five years particular a huge growth in the Metaphysical field. I have been exploring this area since I was 18 years old, so I have been at it for a very long time. When I started out I was lucky to be in England where it is considered quite normal to talk aura's and ghosts ect, and as a avid reader I found a fantastic resource as I traveled that helped awaken me and teach me. I also found other like minded people in Australia that helped me explore the health area's of metaphysics like reflexology and massage as well as at that time -the early 1980's- more unusual area's like past life regression and automatic writing to contact guides. I have through out the years explored many area's of spirit and also religion and have mingled in therapies like Reiki and Chakra healing with massage and aromatherapy.
After many years I have a true understanding of who I am and what my 'talents' are in this vast area of knowledge. I have over the years gotten to a point where I am thankful for my 'gifts' but at the same time I believe in creating a whole balanced perception so it is only part of the whole that is 'me'.
Today I can pick up both metaphysical and main stream magazines and find many columns of physics, healers, guided mediums and so many other fields that seem to grow every time I read a new addition. In many ways I think this is fantastic as it is so excepted and mainstream. BUT at the same time I am concerned. My concerns lay in a few areas. They both come from my experiences as a practicing physic and as a teacher of energy courses. I have found that there are many wonderful people out there who are completely authentic in both their talents and in their respect of their 'gift' and the people they serve. Then there are those who belief they have a 'gift' and belief they are helping people. Then we have the total scammers, those who are much like the grifter's of old, they have either a great ability to con or have some talent but choose to use it to make as much money as possible. I believe we all have choices and every person has a place and a role to play - and when I am in my lack of judgement place I tend to be neutral. Now that is only some times! I get really mad at the injustices that occur in our vast world, even though I believe and understand karma and past lives does not mean the woman in me does not act out.
To actively swindle and use a medium I believe in makes me angry for many reasons.
1. It is immoral and illegal
2. It is often aimed at the most vulnerable
3. It is a stain used to colour all of us who are in this field
We are in a time frame where the metaphysical fields are becoming more and more popular with people from all walks of life and so along with the true and the gifted are the what-a-be and the good old fashioned con artists.
Those of us who believe in positive intentions and harming no one in our processes need to be on guard against those who are using only lies or cons and fear to gain a profit, because in the past, their deeds have been used against all of us. The government in this country is already charging taxes for physics who read in Metaphysical stores and have also started to press charges against some con artists. My concern is that laws will be enforced that curb without a working knowledge of what they are dealing with, what and how we can work. We need to embrace this growth but at the same time be respectful to the Universal Laws that granted us these gifts. Apart from acting with a high individual moral code and speaking up when in the presence of a scammer at this time their is little else we can do to safe guard the magical, mystical world we visit often. I hope the acts of some do not act as a catalyst to the detriment of those of honest intent.
To those of you who use the services of a medium. physic or healer be on guard and use your judgement. If fear is being used to motivate you, get up and leave. If your gut is telling you this is wrong, trust it. If the person you are going to promises to heal you then be on guard as most of us who deal in healing energy understand we are a tool and hope to aide YOU in the healing process WE cannot heal you. If you are being asked many questions to get a answer then again be on guard. Like many areas of our lives using our own inner guidance and discretion is need here as well. There are so many real talented people out there who wish to be of authentic assistance, find them, do not buy into the hype or fancy dress that many use to make you believe that they are gifted....in this case buyer be ware.

A New year

I stand here once again at the beginning of a new year. I am both invigorated and sadden. I am invigorated that there is a new year and I am once again determined to achieve goals I have set for myself, and of course that is also why I am sadden, as these goals are much the same as the ones I have set in previous years. I stand with the same determination in my heart every year. I have a plan in place and tools to use. It should then be a simple process then, but of course as I am repeating some of my list it is obvious that it is not easy at all.
This year I am determined to succeed. Now you may be asking 'what is so different this time around', a valid question, as I have asked myself the same thing. And I believe that is part of the difference. I have not randomly decided that this year I would once again do 1,2,3. I have decided that each day is a new one. This way I cannot sabotage myself for longer than one day. I am going to wake up and face my day with that determination in my heart and my mind. I have my affirmations in place, my journal ready and tools to stop that inner part of myself that drives me to fail.
I finally realise that I have a total black or white side to my mental thought process, and it is this lack of fluidity that has brought about my many failures in the past. My solution to this is to
1. Recognised this part of myself
2. Be on constant vigil of its appearance
3. Understand the emotional signals and my responses
4. Be in a constant re-set mood
5. Treat every day as day 1
6. Be a gentler person to me.
7. Be real in my goals
8. Accept failure as part of success.
Now armed with a new thought process and a acceptance that along the way
I will have failures along with success's I am ready to move into this year with a hope for achievement of my goals and room to pack any baggage I find away for ever.

Namaste and may this year flow with love and peace for you

Fuck That

I have a wish. I believe it is a simple one, but it seems to be beyond complexity in reality because in all the years we - human beings- have been around it has not been achieved. My wish is that we can live in harmony and without subjugating others. Is that too hard to ask or achieve?
Is it a D.N.A. thing? a religious thing? a wealth thing? a control thing? a male/female thing? or a lack in human's that cannot be quantified! I do not know, but I can tell you as a woman living in the 21st century, I am so mad and sad that instead of evolving as a race we seem to be heading backwards.
Is it not time that we learn from our errors and mistakes?
May I ask WHY
Why do we have an increase in violence
Why are the innocent still being harmed and abused
Why do woman still have to worry about being raped and exploited
Why do one or two human's make up the rules for millions
Why does religion still act as a control mechanism for so many
Why does wealth belong to so few
Why do we seem to be incapable to create change

Why ,Why and Why

It is with a sadden heart that I watch most news programs because without a doubt most of them have nothing good or positive to report. Death, violence
and poverty are daily recordings. Yesterday was the telling of the 28 children and adults that were murdered in the USA. It is so sad that this is not a rare telling any more. Equally sad was the latest discussions around the right to bear arms in the states. FUCK that is my opinion. Really what FUCKING mentality level is that! I mourn the loss of all this innocent life BUT.. BUT... BUT
I watched on the same day as woman in Egypt are waiting to see if a new law subjugating them even more was going to be supported and men run around with smirks on their faces....FUCK that as well. Really god told you that you where better and beating and abusing your wife and daughters are you right FUCK that too.
I am tired of being told by welfare and charities to give and give while to great degree they the upper staffers enjoy high wages and perks that would feed and cloth millions- Fuck that too
Fuck that politicians and political parties care more about themselves and maintaining there differences than the welfare of the people who voted them in.
Again Fuck that we are in a time where human life mean so little and human trafficking has risen to bringing in as much money as the drug trade does.
I am so angry that I am made to feel so powerless in this age we live in. Where and what can I do to create the changes I would like to see. Believe me I affirm and pray enough I am positive enough I act like I would like to be treated; Sadly I do not feel it is creating the universal change I would like to see. I do believe that we have to be the change we want but we have created a monster out there...the power mongers the wealth at all cost gathers and the leaders of our world who really don't give a flying damn about what really happens. The irony is we vote them in and then we are Fucked because until the next election we are again powerless, and then we are given the choice between the devil and hell once again.
At least at this stage I still have the power in the country I live in to rant and rage and swear, so I am thankful for that, but with the way our world is going how much longer will I have that privilege.
We need change. We need to be equal in every corner of this world. We need to be free and we need to be loving and respectful to both every other person/animal and the earth we live on. Is that to much to ask for or expect. Can we not learn from our pasts and work together for a greater future.
That is my hope and my hope for my children and their children and for everyone else's children as well.
That is my rant and my rage and my right.

I am bombarded during the Christmas Season with charitable demands, they come via the post and email and there is always the stands in every mall. I have the charities that I always give to and have done for years, these organisations are ones that I have done my research on and feel comfortable that the money I give is actually going to people in need. The issue I have with the Christmas demands is that many only give at this time of year and to me the need is year round. I would much rather know that people are being helped through out the year. There seems to be so many agencies around at Christmas, and to my way of seeing things a lot of families in need are given amble at this time, but are left without much after that. It seems to me that we - and charities- embrace the commercialism of the season, the need for excess. One present, that is not enough the tree has to be loaded. Now if we took all the money donated over the season and then broke it down and gave it over the year to those in need, I really feel it would do so much more good.
I am so concerned about where money to charities goes. My awareness and concerns where raised after Hurricane Katrina, billions of dollars were raised and given to organisations but still money was not made available to those in need. Where did it go, all that money. I found a site that showed the amount of money that was being paid to staff and C.E.O s and to advertising and incentives ect ect ect  and also to my shock I found that just because I donated money to a certain cause the charity did not have to give that money to that cause, they could use it as they wished. My biggest shock was that one of the major agencies at fault was one of the best known. But do not take my word for it, please do your own research.
There is so much need in this world and so many agencies that claim to give it, with all the money being donated yearly really there should not be any poverty. There are a lot of very rich people out there who are rich because of donations. Makes me both sad and extremely mad. My only solution is to be very careful with whom I give my money to. I check and re-check and then I hope that I am making a difference. Unfortunately charities are big business as are most medical fund raising groups. The bigger they get the more money needs to be raised just to keep the infrastructure going. I once read that out of every dollar raised 1 cent went to the cause, now how sad is that.
My bottom line with this rant is please if you donate, check out that your money is mainly going where you think it is; maximize your donation. I know that I did and so when I open my wallet it is doing the good I hoped it would.

Happy Christmas

What does Christmas mean to you? Is it a time of fun, family and joy or is it a time of expense and dread and you are glad when the season is over and done with? It is sad that the later is the most common response. In my mind it is time to create a change, to take the stress out of season and put the fun back in to it.
My basic rules are : Be OK with simplicity. If you do not like to put up a houseful of decorations and it is left up to you, then don't. If you get complaints then let them know if they wish more they have to do it.
: Be OK with only buying for immediate family if that is what you wish to do and set a price limit on it. Budget for your Christmas, it is great to see the bigger box store re-introducing lay-away, so that you do not have to use your credit cards and have time to pay for your gifts.
: Be Wise as gifts are brief and it is not things that are remembered down the roads of time, it is the experience. So do not give into emotional blackmail to overspend if you cannot do so or if you do not want to.
: Be a Delegator. If it is Christmas at your house and you are expecting a lot of people then ask them to bring a dish with them. In our family the host provides the turkey and everyone else brings the trimmings.
: Be Available. Have fun at Christmas again give others a job so that you are not always the one running around- this is family- treat them that way and not like the occasional quest.
: Set up holiday memories now that your family will remember for the future. In my home my grown children still like our traditions of opening one gift Christmas Eve, driving around to look at all the lights and having their dad make eggs benedict for Christmas morning.
: Remember what the occasion is about, whether you are religious or not celebrate the reason for Christmas which is the birth of Christ and peace on earth and good will to man. Be nice, be charitable and do not give in to the need to over spend.
                               : Have FUN!

Have a wondrous Christmas this year and remember it is about family not money spent or presents under the tree. Free yourself from the need to over extend yourself emotionally and financially and bring back the inner joy of being available to the simplicity of the moments that make this a special day.
Peace on Earth and Good Will to All Men and Women and Children, not only on Christmas Day but for always!

Being Me

I find that there are many blessings to being in your fifties. For me it was the return of my Australian-ism's. After spending almost half my adult life in Canada where I had to modify my outspoken bluntness because it was viewed as rude or offensive and my affectionate nature (love to hug and touch people) which was perceived as being sexual or again offensive; it was a relief to wake up one morning and have the realisation that "Life is to short to be who you are not". I am proudly Australian as well as a Canadian through choice, but I was choosing to be only Canadian because it was the easier of things to do to 'fit in'. How I dislike that term! Do not say this or that do not be this or that. I actually find it funny that most new immigrants are encouraged to keep their heritage in this the country of integrations, but those of us who are white and English speaking are not given that same privilege. Now I know in someway, someone will take that as me being racist. I say to you this is HOW I FOUND IT TO BE, this is my REALITY
and quite frankly I am F***ing tired of being told what and how to say what is on my mind because someone else may be offended. WHAT ABOUT ME! Am I not entitled as it seems everyone else of other origin is to have my heritage and  feelings honored.
When I turned 50, I also re-connected with myself. Spiritual, physically and emotionally. I came to the realisation that I am entitled to be ME. Good, bad or ugly. It is ironic that Canada achieved what my parents could not, the ability to silence me in a lot of ways. No longer and no more is my motto now. I am who I am, whether you like it or not really does not concern me anymore because having my voice and speaking my truth is a really important part of who I am. Allowing myself to be open and affectionate is also who I am. I now do not allow the judgement holders the ability to control me any longer. I am lucky that I now am in the position that I do not need the approval of a employer or any other system to tell me how or who I should be. Amazing the cycle's we can repeat without us realising it. I spent a lot of time us a child fighting for my voice and my nature and then moved to another country and culture that did just that stopped both in such a insidious way that I did not even realise how much it had happened until I went back to Australia after 13 years of being away. I was so polite in comparison to every one else, so worried about offending with a blunt or truthful statement. But at the same time I realised I had lost that sense of freedom and joy of just being honest and being me. Now please, I am not being a downer on Canada, I love this country it is an amazing place. This is about the power of being a new-be  and trying to fit in, by not placing enough importance on being You. My fifties are my rediscovery times, the relief of being me times, the who cares what others thinks time, my get of the pot and be and do times. My realisation that most likely half my life is over, so what am I waiting for, who am I waiting for. Embracing who you are with an open heart and mind is so freeing I have to wonder why I allowed myself to be side tracked away from what my much younger self fought for. Maybe it was so that when I came full circle I would do so with maturity to appreciate those aspects of myself, to not take them for granted and to except it is finally great to be ME.
Take a moment and ask yourself, "Am I being me. Am I holding back and if so why" and if you are please do yourself a favour and release the leash and embrace you. You are a beautiful reflection of the creator, foibles and all.

Gratefulness

G is for generating the energy
R is for being real and allowing false thoughts to be released
A is for your actions that speak louder than words
T is for tenderness as you go forth into your day
E is for your excitement of living life well
F is for faith that adds dimensions
U is for unity of mind/body and soul
L is for love, for yourself and others
N is for being a nurturer of ideas and hope
E is for enjoyment of living a life with joy
S is for Self and understand your role
S is for success and understanding gratitude

Step into your day with gratefulness in your heart and mind and you will find that the little things that use to plague you are no longer present and that joy and laughter and love will be there too guide you more readily. Take a positive step and write or think of all the things that you are grateful for every day; the list needs not to be long but needs to be real.

Positive verses negative messaging

I wish that the general media would broadcast more 'feel good' stories, because I know that there are legions of people in this vast world of ours who are making a difference. I know that as I write, some body out there is offering a helping hand, giving to a charity, working with the many organizations and groups we have or just helping a family member or friend. I choose to believe that given the choice, most people would step up and aide their fellow man.
Now you would not know that from the media reports that supply us information 24/7. All we see is the bad and the ugly, with a occasional celeb story thrown in for relief or the latest Internet craze. It is no wonder many are feeling hopeless and over whelmed, with a sense that this world we live in is on a path to destruction. Wars and domestic upheaval with a dash of economic doom and toss that with a taste of climatic disaster's and what are we left with? a feeling of hopelessness.
I am a cynic in many ways, as it is my belief that we are feed this continual feeding of negativity so that we (the people) either just except it or we feel exhausted and depressed and do nothing to create change. We do not question the sources of this information and then we are happy with a small tidbit of good news given by the governments. Baa, baa. We are becoming sheep, with a hook leading us around; all for our own good of course!
With most of the world being hooked up with technology and information, like we have never seen in the past, what a powerful tool. I would like us the people to use those tools to limit the negative and focus on the positive. Unfortunately most of us focus on the bad or we just switch of and isolate ourselves either physically or mentally.
I believe we need to become our own advocates and limit the amounts of pre-package biased based information we absorb. We need for our own self survival to focus our intentions on a positive belief system; I am not saying put your head in the sand and not be informed. I am saying be selective and know the info source you are tuning into, know who owns them and what their affiliations are, because that effects the info being supplied.
Become focused on self empowerment and lose the sheep mentality.
What we put out, will be our primary focus point, so why choose to focus only on the bad and ugly. The choice is yours, all I ask if that you at least think about it.

Remembrance

Yesterday was Remembrance Day and I shed tears as normal when I watched the stories of young lives lost in service, so that we can have our freedom. It was refreshing to see that the young generation was present in numbers. I sometimes wonder whether the concept of individual freedom is some think thought about today, especially in a country like Canada were only around 60% of the population that can vote actually bother to do so.
It seems to me that there is a lack of connection  felt, between our armed forces that fight aboard now days and the concept that this is providing us with personal freedom in Canada. Apathy is alive and well! It is not just a fluke that countries like Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand and England have never had battles for freedom against other countries on their own soils. Those who stand tall and proud in the face of tyrants with the blood of their own are sending out a powerful message of Freedom and Hope.
Today as I view all of those who are fighting aboard and coming back with scars both visible and internal, I do wonder whether they feel that they are fighting for freedom and hope. I do not know the stats for the Canadian Forces that return to private life's and do not find support for their injuries but I believe it is on the high side. I have seen enough reports out of the USA that places as high as 60% of returning soldiers being homeless and unemployed with no resources to help them with any problems from being of service. Shame on those in power that allow this to happen. What message are we sending out their: fight, give your life and sanity but tough.
I watch the politicians and visible rich and arrogant who stand for these freedoms but only if it lines there own pockets and think to myself :"has it always been this way". Personal rewards to a few at the cost of thousands who die! Is it needed or is it a power play on a Nation level with the young and poor being the pawns. Is this why our men, women and children  have given their life's for?
I watch the group's out there bandy around many reasons why/not we should send in our forces to other countries and I wonder what are their intentions? Are they really stating opinions with the regard to freedom being at the forefront or do they have their own addenda's?
My belief is that we need to provide those who are willing to give their life's for us to have the freedom to have choice.  Then we should be less passive and more pro-active in what our government and those in power are allowed to do. Those of us who bask in the freedom provided by the loss of others should do more than give a minute of silence once a year. Whether we lobby for our service men and women or volunteer at a center or Vote; It does not matter the what, it is being engaged and pro-active that does.

To all that have given of themselves so that I may sit here and write the above, my thanks is not enough But I give it anyway as it is something, and given with respect and honor. I salute you.

Help is this the new world for our kids

I find it unsettling that parents of young children seem to view their offspring as small adults or equals. Have I missed out on that memo? the one that states that your children can participate in adult decision making or better yet make the rules that govern both them and others around them. I mean it is not like young children have underdeveloped brains or emotions and actually need to be taught. I find it incredible that people learn more about raising a pet that they do to raising a child. There seems to be a lacking of any common sense bustling around, it takes more than food and shelter too bringing up a child.
The concept of applying boundaries, having rules and actually being a disciplinarian - heavens above- that means you have to be present constantly in your child's life- now that does not seem to be something many parents at this time seem capable of. Harsh, yes, but that is how I am seeing it. We are in a time where children are being handed pills for ADD and Autism is at the highest level in our history, and behavioural problems are through the roof. I do not believe that parenting issues are the route of all of the problems we are seeing BUT I do believe it is a participant.
I am trained in Early Childhood development and also have been educated as a councillor on top I am a mother and so I do no from experience what I am talking about around bringing up children. It seems that kids are being allowed to self regulate their behaviours and their diets and that boundaries are not present. Parents are busy I get that, I was and so was my husband But you have to make your child a priority. That at times means having and sticking to rules and having expectations that your child will listen and do what you ask of them.

Now I no you are thinking I am down of parents - you would be wrong- I am down on the system that we are living our lives to. We are forced because of the economy to have to have both parents in the workforce often working more than one job. Food, gas, cars and shelter currently cost more than ever before and most people are considered to be in the working poor or a couple of pay cheques away from the streets. For alot of people family support is either not there or too far away to be of benefit. Child care is marginal in most countries in the fact that it is usually a baby sister who places the child in front of a T.V. or computer or a under paid over worked trained care provider who is tired. Values and discipline are deemed old fashion or abuse. The irony of that is that child porn and sexual abuse is on the rise and parents who care and set boundaries are often judged and ridiculed today as bad parents.
What I want to know is when did we vote in the government to be the provider of how we bring up our children. Really the schools are a mess. the government is not working properly and the child protective services are a laugh. Now if they the government wanted to tell big business to stop poisoning our children and us by putting who knows what in our foods then great. If they wanted to enforce strong sentencing against those who have put the family of today in a financial nightmare, I am all for it. But I am a dreamer.
Parents today in alot of ways are blind. They have no idea on how to raise a child because they where never taught, either because of lack of parents or because of the break down in the family unit and the failure of society as a whole to fill the void. Why are their not common sense parenting classes provided free to anyone having a child, why is not the reality of having a baby taught in every class in high school. Why is not free child care provided and good wages given so that parents do not have to work many jobs for the basics needed. Why do we not have loving proactive non judgmental but FIRM rules out there that make sense and allow children the freedom of being a child with no real worries and understanding that rules are their for their safety and that teachers and parents and adults that give respect earn respect back. That it is OK for them-the child-to push the boundaries and rules but no is no for a good reason and their are real consequences to not listening and doing.
We - society- need to rethink, re look and redo this current system because in most cases it is not working and we are letting a overindulged, under disciplined and selfish generation full of prescribed drugs and behaviours lose- not a great picture but one that we can change if we care to.

Children

I consider myself to be so lucky in many areas of my life; but I am blessed many times over with my kids. They are all adults now and are all leading proactive lives, in great relationships and making a positive statement in their worlds plus they phone their mother because they want to! And I like them as people.
I look back at the time and energy that both my husband and I put into raising our kids and see the rewards for the considerable effort and expense and doing without that was our reality. We where firm believers in being around and there to raise our kids, we both took jobs that did not necessarily reward our bottom line but gave us time with our family. I remember that we where often in the few parents category that drove our kids and other kids to games and we where in the few that where the cheering club section.
That was a choice we made as parents, that if one could not be there the other one would be. I do not believe our kids suffered- so at times they could not have the best of the current shoe or clothing But they never missed out and certainly learnt money is earned and not a magical thing that just appears and sales are our friends. But our house was the meeting ground and feeding ground lol for most of there friends and life was not boring. I am a rule person and have stood my ground and had face to face fights with all my kids, I feel anything worth doing is worth doing well and the energy required to stand my ground has paid off as I see the adults they have become.
Love and hugs and kisses were also standard fare as well and still are. I believe teaching kids that there are non-sexual touches in hugs and kisses is extremely important. My degree was as a MotherCraft Nurse and I learnt and dealt with children from birth to 6 in many settings and have dealt with both failure to thrive through non touch to sexual abused and physical/emotional abused children - all need healing touch and positive role modelling that display this. I stopped teaching pre-school when the government decided that touch of any type was not permitted - and I look at a lot of the current issues society is facing and the school system has to handle and I am not surprised. We have boundaries that we should not have in some areas and no boundaries in areas we should have. In strong language we are fucking up big time. We need to reassess our core beliefs around the family unit and bring back some basic values and stick to them -please- because otherwise we as a society is heading for big trouble.
My thought is if you do not want to have to committee for at least 18 years and put yourself at the back of your life for periods of time and do what is needed to be their for your children, do not have them, or put off having them until they can be a priority. Kids are not a accessory or a narcissistic reflection of you and your partner or a means to a end. We as a society need to grow up and stop our selfish self indulges mentality and place a value on kids and family once again.
Now to all of those who do and do and try their best in raising their families in harsh conditions all my blessing and thoughts are with you - keep it up and hopefully you will have the time to look back and see your sacrifices are worth it. The continued love and respect of your adult children and the possibilities of grandchildren makes it well worth while.
I do think that we as a whole society should be there as a helping hand- I just do not know what that should look like in the current environment we live in. But I do know, as my parents and their parents knew, kids are our futures and the worlds future, so we need to do the best job we are capable of to see that they have the love and the tools to be great adults.
